CareSource Foundation Funds $433,500 in Grants to 24 Non-Profits
DAYTON, Ohio, March 17, 2011 – The CareSource Foundation recently awarded its first round of quarterly grants for 2011 including a $200,000 high-impact Signature Grant to Enroll America. The CareSource Foundation invests in nonprofit organizations that focus on critical trends in children's health, community health issues, special needs populations and strategies to address the medically uninsured throughout Ohio and Michigan. A total of $433,500 was awarded to 24 non-profit organizations in both states.
CareSource Foundation Grant recipients include:

Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio: $5,000 to expand competitive and recreational opportunities to individuals with disabilities throughout the state

AIDS Resource Center Ohio: $12,500 to provide support services designed to prevent homelessness for client living with HIV/AIDS

American Heart Association: $5,000 to support the Go Red for Women initiative which educates women on risk factors for cardiovascular disease

Asian Services in Action: $10,000 to provide access to low-income Asian immigrant and refugee children in northeast Ohio

Aurora Project: $5,000 for transitional housing that allows low-income women in recovery to be housed with their children

CHOICES, Inc.: $7,500 to expand mentoring and social experiences for foster youth in an eleven-county region

Columbus Speech and Hearing Center: $7,000 to ensure that children with hearing/speech issues receive high-quality occupational therapy and audiology services

Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley: $15,000 to offer free developmental screenings for childcare providers in a six-county region

Healthy Beginnings: $10,000 to provide support for high-risk pregnancy services in the Cincinnati region

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: $8,500 to provide educational, emotional and financial-aid assistance for patients services programs

LifeCare Alliance: $8,000 to support meals, transportation and daily living assistance for older adults with chronic illness or disabilities in the Columbus region

Linda Vista Project: $7,500 to enhance transitional housing and comprehensive self-sufficiency programs for low-income women in recovery

Ohio Health Foundation: $8,000 to provide portable ultrasound and specialized lighting for the Grady Memorial Hospital OB/GYN outreach clinic

Ohio Parkinson Foundation of SW Ohio: $5,000 to expand Parkinson’s Disease support groups into six new counties where neurological referral offices present the highest demand

Omega Community Development: $8,000 to support the Freedom Schools summer program for urban youth

South Community: $10,000 to help integrate primary and behavioral health care for young adults diagnosed with seriously mental illness and/or substance abuse issues

Suicide Prevention: $5,000 grant to fund “Project Lifesaver” K-12 suicide prevention education program for middle and high school students in a 24-county region

YMCA of Greater Dayton: $7,000 to impact childhood obesity in the African-American community including fitness training, nutrition education and partnership with GetUp Montgomery County

YWCA Dayton: $15,000 to provide emergency shelter for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence and/or child abuse

Family Outreach Center: $7,500 to support mental health services and support for low-income families in the Grand Rapids MI area

Food Banks of South Center Michigan: $5,000 to expand the “Kids After-School Backpack” program to supply weekend meals for over 1,500 low-income students
-
Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan: $7,500 to increase aggressive lead-testing goals for low-income families in older homes and housing units

Kids Food Basket: $8,000 to provide fresh fruits and vegetables in over 3,400 sack suppers provided to low-income children
The CareSource Foundation also provided a $200,000 Signature Grant to “Enroll America”—a national organization with state-based industry, philanthropy, social and community partners.
