CareSource Chooses Alzheimer's Association for $10,000 Grant

DAYTON, Ohio, July 19, 2011 - The CareSource Foundation, part of CareSource, a non-profit, public-sector managed care company, recently announced The Alzheimer's Association Miami Valley Chapter is the recipient of a $10,000 grant through CareSource Foundation's People's Choice Grants program. Each quarter, the Foundation contributes $10,000 to one nonprofit organization that is nominated and voted on by CareSource employees.

The grant will be used to launch a successful Dementia Caregiver program to provide education, social support and respite programs to caregivers of family members suffering with dementia. The program will help reach the estimated 60,0000 caregivers in the Southwest Ohio region who provide an estimated 680,000 hours of unpaid care giving services each year. "We are honored to have the support of the CareSource community", states Eric VanVlymen, Executive Director. "There's a growing need to help overwhelmed caregivers who often compromise their own health and safety to provide care to family members who have Alzheimer's."

"CareSource employees have shown tremendous support for our communities," says Cathy Ponitz, executive director of the CareSource Foundation. "The People's Choice grants give them an opportunity to really get involved with the Foundation process. The Alzheimer's Association is an outstanding investment."

The Foundation will also give the other two finalists - Kids in New Directions (KIND) and Christopher House - each a $2,500 grant.

The CareSource Foundation invests in nonprofit organizations that focus on critical trends in children's health, community health issues, special needs populations and strategies to address the medically uninsured throughout Ohio and Michigan.
