CareSource Foundation Funds $205,500 in Grants to 37 Non-Profits
DAYTON, Ohio, September 7, 2011 – The CareSource Foundation recently awarded its third round of quarterly grants for 2011. The CareSource Foundation invests in nonprofit organizations that focus on critical trends in children's health, community health issues, special needs populations and strategies to address the medically uninsured throughout Ohio and Michigan. A total of $205,500 was given to 37 non-profit organizations in both states. CareSource Foundation grant recipients include:

Advocates for Basic Legal Equality: $5,000 for a medical-legal partnership to improve the health and welfare of low-income families with children in NW/ central Ohio

Achievement Center for Children: $5,000 to support an intensive therapy clinic for children with disabilities in the Cleveland area

Adoption Network of Cleveland: $5,000 to help support programs that prepare young adults in the foster care with medical care, health insurance and healthy living after “aging out” of the system

Akron Children's Hospital: $5,000 to fund a dating violence prevention program for high school students in the Akron region

Alzheimer's Association of Cleveland: $5,000 to provide education and support for families of individuals recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease

Battered Women's Shelter of Akron: $8,000 to provide dedicated crisis intervention support at the largest domestic violence shelter in Akron

Boonshoft Museum of Discovery: $7,500 to fund operations of the “Exhibits to Go” series of traveling museum experiences for urban and rural students in the Dayton region

Brighter Beginnings: $5,000 to help expand education and therapy programs for children with disabilities in an 8-county region based in Marysville

Catholic Charities of Cleveland: $5,000 to provide support for the Hispanic Senior Center art and exercise therapy programs

Clothes that Work: $8,000 grant to fund a community collaborative to support women and teens moving from poverty to employment in the greater Dayton region

Crayons to Classrooms: $3,000 grant to help teachers distribute undergarments and socks to Montgomery County’s poorest children

Elderly Persons in Community: $5,000 to provide safe housing facilities for poor and functionally impaired elderly in the greater Cincinnati region

Family & Community Resource Center: $7,500 to support expansion of summer feeding programs for Appalachian families in Columbiana county

Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center of Greater Cincinnati: $5,000 to provide screenings, hearing aids and fittings to help people with deafness overcome obstacles to communication

Joseph's Home: $6,000 to provide transitional housing for homeless men with acute illness in a 7-county area near Cleveland

Little Brothers/Friends of the Elderly: $5,000 to support expansion of the on-call emergency assistance program for the frail and elderly poor of Cincinnati

Mercy Medical Center: $5,000 to provide increased dental services for special needs and pediatric patients in the Stark County region

MetroHealth Foundation: $7,500 to fund the “Daddy Boot Camp” program for young fathers in the greater Cleveland region

Mom's House Toledo: $4,000 to provide family life wellness and parenting programs for young, single mothers and their children in the Toledo region

Otterbein Homes: $5,000 to support the Benevolent Care Fund for low-income elderly residents who outlive their assets

PLACES: $5,000 grant to provide healthcare and housing for homeless adults diagnosed with mental health disorders

Planned Parenthood Central Ohio: $5,000 to support Responsible Sexuality Education programs designed to educate young adults on avoiding unintended pregnancy and STDs

Portsmouth City Health Department: $5,000 to provide HPV vaccinations (cervical cancer prevention) for young adults who have aged out of the range of coverage

Project CHATTER: $6,200 to support speech therapy for young children with language impairments in Montgomery County

Project Woman: $6,000 grant to provide shelter and support for victims of domestic violence in Clark, Champaign and Logan counties

Providence House: $6,000 to support the crisis nursery which offers safe emergency shelter to babies and toddlers at risk of abuse or neglect

Reach Out of Montgomery County: $10,000 grant to provide after-care for the medically uninsured who are being released from the hospital in Montgomery, Preble and Greene counties

Spanish American Committee: $5,000 to provide safe haven shelter for non-English speaking Latino women and families who experience domestic violence in Cleveland

Suicide Prevention Education Alliance: $4,500 to support delivery of depression and suicide prevention programs to 15,000 students in NE Ohio

Visiting Nurse Association of Ohio: $5,000 to support weight management strategies for low-income cardiac care patients in NE and north Central Ohio

Voices for Ohio's Children: $5,000 to provide statewide advocacy for public policy that improves the health of Ohio’s children and their families

Women's Center of Cleveland: $5,000 to support on-site daycare for children of parents in alcohol and drug treatment facilities

(MI) American Diabetes Association of Michigan: $4,500 to provide scholarships for low-income children to attend Camp Midicha, the largest diabetes camp in the nation

(MI) Downtown Outreach Ministries: $5,000 to supply emergency food, clothing and personal items for poverty-stricken families in the Flint area

(MI) Portage Community Center: $5,000 to support financial education and prevention of evictions and utility shut-offs for families facing economic challenges in Kalamazoo county

(MI) Rockford Community Service Center: $7,500 to provide a perishable foods strategy for the Kent County emergency food pantry

(MI) VSA Arts of Michigan: $5,000 to fund the arts therapy program for pediatric patients at the Mary Free Bed rehabilitation hospital in Grand Rapids
