CareSource Foundation Funds $179,500 in Grants to 27 Non-Profits

DAYTON, Ohio, June 23, 2011 – The CareSource Foundation recently awarded its second round of quarterly grants for 2011. The CareSource Foundation invests in nonprofit organizations that focus on critical trends in children's health, community health issues, special needs populations and strategies to address the medically uninsured throughout Ohio and Michigan. A total of $179,500 was given to 27 non-profit organizations in both states.

CareSource Foundation Grant recipients include:

  • Abilities First: $8,000 to expand the early childhood learning center and pediatric therapies programs which serve over 1,200 individuals in a 7-county region

  • Communication Services for the Deaf: $5,000 to provide an educational series that helps families with deaf and hearing children learn to communicate using sign language

  • Fairview Hospital Westown Physician's Center: $5,000 to help implement the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative which pairs peer counselors with new mothers in the Cleveland region

  • Greenleaf Family Center: $8,000 to provide support for 12 social service programs covering 2,200 at-risk children in the greater Akron region

  • Hannah's Treasure Chest: $8,000 to provide clothing, furniture, car seats and books to economically disadvantaged families with children

  • The Hope Foundation: $8,000 to expand food pantry and delivery services for over 700 needy families in Montgomery & Greene counties

  • Humility of Mary Health Partners: $7,500 to assist in the purchase of a mobile dental clinic which serves low-income children and adults in the Youngstown region

  • LifeSpan: $5,000 to support professional develop opportunities for clinical therapists in the areas of short-term specialized behavioral management therapies for young children

  • National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter: $5,000 to support the respite care program for family members of individuals with MS

  • National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ohio Valley Chapter: $5,000 to increase access to care and improve coordination of community services for key health providers serving individuals with MS

  • National Children's Hospital Foundation: $8,000 to expand childhood obesity awareness and treatment programs into two new schools in the Columbus region

  • Near Northside Material Assistance Program: $6,000 to support the Columbus food pantry serving over 18,000 families

  • Neighborhood Church Clinic: $5,000 to provide lead testing equipment and assessment

  • New Creation Counseling Center: $10,000 to build capacity and promote coordination of over 80 social service partners in a 7-county region of southwestern Ohio

  • Ohio Domestic Violence Network: $8,000 to provide training and technical support to all agencies in Ohio focused on domestic violence prevention and children's protective services

  • One Way Farm: $6,500 to support housing and medical services for abused, abandoned and neglected children

  • Prevent Blindness Ohio: $10,000 to increase the number of trained vision screeners in the Dayton/Montgomery County region who will test over 20,000 preschoolers for sight issues

  • Ronald McDonald House of the Miami Valley Region: $7,500 to provide accommodations for families of critically ill and hospitalized children

  • Southwestern Ohio Hemophilia Foundation: $2,000 to ensure that all children in a 23-county region with a hemophilia diagnosis have a visible medical ID bracelet

  • United Rehabilitation Services: $10,000 to support daily services and multiple programs for more than 300 children and adults with disabilities

  • Universal Health Care Action Network of Ohio: $15,000 to support statewide efforts to provide high quality, accessible and affordable health care for all Ohioans

  • Youth Challenge: $5,000 to provide adaptive sports and recreational activities for children with disabilities in the Cleveland area

  • YWCA Cincinnati: $5,000 to support the "Energy on the Go" program focused on healthy-living education for parents of children up to age 5

  • Berrien County Health Department: $2,000 for the "Lead Safe Kids" program for at-risk families in Berrien County, Michigan

  • Charitable Union: $5,000 to provide school uniforms, winter coats and bedding for over 100 low-income children in the Battle Creek, Michigan area

  • Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan: $5,000 to provide accommodations for families of critically ill and hospitalized children

  • Visser Family YMCA: $5,000 to support the Special Seals program which provides adaptive aquatic exercise for children with special needs
