Preventive screenings are covered services for CareSource members

Please encourage your female patients to contact their Primary Care Provider to schedule a mammogram, PAP test, and Chlamydia screening.

Your patient’s health is important to us. During this cold and flu season, CareSource:

  • Is covering Influenza vaccines, including the H1N1 vaccine, as a member benefit.
  • Wants to make it easier for you, so we have lifted the prior authorization requirement on Tamiflu and Relenza.
  • Wants your patients, our members, to know they can call CareSource 24 at 1-866-206-0554 (TTY 1-800-750-0750 or 711) if they need immediate assistance when your office is closed.
  • Invites you to visit the Centers for Disease Control website for the most up to date information on vaccination planning. The Information about the availability and recommendations for the H1N1 vaccine is changing every day.

CDC information posted on 9/18/09 stated that the vaccine will be shipped by mid October to clinics, offices, health departments, and other project area-designated sites which may include a mix of public health and private sector sites via centralized distribution. This is the same process that is used to ship vaccines for the childhood immunization program to immunization providers. H1N1 vaccine will be procured and purchased by the federal government and made available for vaccinators at no cost. Since there will be no charge for the vaccine itself; the only payment that will be made is the fee for the administration of the vaccine. Please contact your Health Department for more information.

Stay Healthy with Annual Exams

Regular medical checkups are the best way to stay healthy. They can help prevent serious illnesses and diseases.

You should visit your primary care doctor once a year for a checkup, even if you don’t feel sick. Children under age 2 need to go more often since babies grow so fast. The checkup is called a Healthchek exam for children from birth through age 20. Even after age 20, adults still need to keep getting an annual checkup. Call your doctor to schedule a checkup today.

For more health tips, visit the Health and Wellness sections of our website.

24-Hour Nurse Advice Line

  • What medications are available?
  • Where can I get the flu shot?
Please talk with your PCP about the flu or getting the flu shots.

Please perform EPSDT exams

EPSDT or well-child exams for children under the age of 21 are very important. These exams can be performed at the time of an acute-care visit if indicated. An important component of the EPSDT exam is ensuring that your patients are up-to-date with their immunizations and lead screening. Please take every opportunity to perform an EPSDT exam.

Did you know Lead Poisoning can be prevented?

Controlling your asthma

It is important to take the medicines your doctor gives you. This is very important if you have asthma. Your doctor or a CareSource nurse can answer any questions you have about your medicine.

Do you know an uninsured child?

Ohio is trying to connect kids to health care coverage. Many are eligible for Medicaid but have not enrolled. Uninsured children miss more school and are more likely to go without basic medical care or prescribed medicine.

Do you know a child who does not have health insurance? If so, talk to their parent or guardian. Tell them to contact one of the following:

  • The Medicaid Consumer Hotline at 1-800-324-8680.
  • The Ohio Benefit Bank at 1-800-648-1176.
  • Their local county Department of Job and Family Services.
