Iowa Grant Challenge

Overview

Iowa has a prevalence of children with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). According to a recent study, Iowa has one of the highest rates of foster kids on mental health medication in the U.S. Children with special needs – mental, developmental, emotional, learning and/or physical – have an even more challenging time accessing services that can support their long-term needs. These issues affect the children in the system, families, social workers, attorneys, judges, administrators, health care workers and caretakers.

The CareSource Foundation, through the CareSource Foundation Grant Challenge, recognized 10 community-based organizations and nonprofits working to improve health conditions. These organizations increase access to specialized services for children with disabilities, as well as support Iowa families. They work to improve the overall health and well-being of children and families across the state.
