Kansas Grant Challenge
Overview
Kansas has seen the greatest decline in health rankings over the past 30 years, including an increase in the number of families that lack health care coverage. Additionally, in 2018, the number of children in foster care in Kansas hit record highs and there are significant racial disparities in the system. Children with special needs have an even more challenging time accessing services that can support their long-term needs. These issues not only affect the children in the system. They affect families, social workers, attorneys, judges, administrators, health care workers and caretakers.
The CareSource Foundation, through the CareSource Foundation Grant Challenge, recognized 10 community-based organizations and nonprofits working to improve health conditions. These groups help secure access to specialized services for children with disabilities, and support Kansas families to improve overall health and well-being of foster children and families across the state.
