New Federal Rules Are Coming to Medicaid

Some Medicaid Expansion members will be impacted starting in January 2027. Each state will determine how to apply the rules to their members.

CareSource is here to help you get ready.

Work Requirements

To keep Medicaid coverage, some Medicaid Expansion members will need to work or do other actions. Things that meet the work requirement include:

    • Work a job at least 80 hours a month or earn at least $580 a month;
    • Volunteer or do other community service;
    • Join job training or other accepted workforce development programs;
    • Go to school or take other classes; or
    • Do other tasks set by your state.

Renew Twice a Year

In the past, Medicaid Expansion plan members renewed their coverage every 12 months. Starting in January 2027, these members will now renew every six months.

Impacted Members

Both of these updates will affect you if you are an adult from age 19 to 64 with a Medicaid Expansion health plan. When it comes to work requirements, you could get an exemption. Your state will decide if you don’t have to meet those requirements.
