Steve Smitherman, President, Indiana Market

As President, Indiana Market, Steve Smitherman oversees strategy and operations for all plans in the state. He has led the development and implementation of CareSource Marketplace, Medicare Advantage, Healthy Indiana Plan 2.0 (HIP) and Hoosier Healthwise products in Indiana.

Steve has over 20 years of Medicaid and commercial health plan leadership experience and is a lifelong Hoosier. He joined CareSource in 2012 as Director, Network Development, Indiana Market where he oversaw provider relationships and contracting as CareSource entered the state.

Steve serves on the board of Covering Kids & Families of Indiana, participating in the finance and audit committees. He also serves on the board of the Indiana Association of Health Plans and serves on committees for Alliance for a Healthier Indiana. Steve frequently volunteers at the Wheeler Mission Ministries, Gleaners Foodbank and with numerous youth sports programs.

Steve earned his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Southern Indiana, Evansville.
