Data Sharing

You control who can use your health care data. In CareSource MyLifeSM, you can choose to share your health data or keep it private, as the law allows.

Your health data may include claims and health records for care you got before. It may also include Sensitive Health Information (SHI)*.

Who can I share my data with?

  • Providers, like doctors or care teams, who cared for you before, treat you now or may treat you later.
  • Health plans you had before, have now or may have later.

How is data shared?

Your health data is shared through a tool called an Application Programming Interface (API). An API lets us share data safely.

For providers: Data sharing is automatic for network or enrolled providers who treat you. Only these providers can see your health records and past care. This can help them know what you need. It can help then plan your care and ask for approval when needed. You can stop sharing your data at any time.

For other health plans: We will only share your data with another health plan if you opt in and give us details about the other plan. Then we can ask that plan to share your claims and health records with us. This can help with your care and benefits. You can opt out at any time. This will stop your data from being shared.

Why should I share my data?

Sharing data helps make your health care experience better. When you share data:

Providers who treat you may be able to use your health records and past care. This helps with your care and benefits. It makes it easier for the provider to:

  • Know your health care needs
  • Plan your care
  • Support the prior authorization process
  • Help you get the right care at the right time

Other health plans you add will be able to see your claims and past care. This makes it easier for the plan to:

  • Support your care and benefits
  • Decide what your plan will cover
