CareSource’s mission of making a lasting difference in our members’ lives by improving their health and well-being has a natural connection to the health and well-being of our environment. CareSource is providing a greater focus on its environmental sustainability initiatives, starting with the establishment of a carbon emissions reduction target of 20% from its building operations by 2025.

“CareSource is proud to announce our commitment to environmental and social governance by implementing strategies that are in the best interest of our organization, our employees and the communities we serve,” said David Clapper, Director of Facilities Management at CareSource.

CareSource is committed to achieving this goal through implementing carbon reduction measures to reduce building energy usage, evaluating the feasibility of more complex carbon reduction measures such as renewable energy, and by engaging company departments and stakeholders to begin a detailed inventory of non-building energy usage emission sources. Achieving this reduction target will result in a carbon emissions reduction of over 1,400 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2025.

The emissions benefit of this reduction is equivalent to:

  • The annual energy use of 179 homes
  • The annual emissions from 323 passenger vehicles
  • Planting and growing 24,538 tree seedlings for 10 years

This carbon emissions reduction will also yield a recurring financial savings benefit by reducing electricity and natural gas consumption.

These benefits stretch far beyond the environmental benefits of carbon reduction and directly benefit CareSource by placing sustainability as one of its core priorities.
