CareSource is passionate about ensuring the health and well-being of all of our members and for Hoosiers at large.  Many of our members are at disproportionate risk for poor health outcomes because of demographic and/or social factors.  These disparities cannot be resolved by one entity alone.  By joining forces with other thought leaders in Indiana for a Health Equity Collaborative, we can begin to dismantle the systems, biases and inequities that affect our members.

The newly created Health Equity Collaborative is an opportunity to work closely with cross-sector leaders throughout the state to drive important work to increase health equity and health outcomes for Hoosiers. The intent is to bring individuals together who represent a variety of populations to share their perspective and craft initiatives in which we can collaborate to affect positive health equity changes.

“By establishing the Health Equity Collaborative, CareSource works across industry and community sectors with the goal of increasing the health and well-being of our members who are potentially disadvantaged by race, ethnicity, language, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, social class, intersections among these communities or identities, or other socially determined circumstances,” said Dr. Cameual Wright, Vice President and Market Chief Medical Officer at CareSource Indiana. “Currently, the Collaborative is focused on issues related to community engagement and education, successful Medicaid redetermination at the conclusion of the public health emergency, provider cultural humility and legislative advocacy.”

Members of the group include the Indiana Minority Health Coalition, Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership and Area Agency on Aging.

In the future, the Collaborative plans to add a subgroup called the Health Equity Consumer Group comprised of individuals with lived experience who can inform and react to the committee’s goals and actions. By embracing the phrase “Nothing about me, without me”, the Health Equity Collaborative fosters transparency, inclusion and accountability to the individuals we serve.
