Special Supplemental Benefits For The Chronically Ill
Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill (SSBCI) are extra benefits offered by some Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans to enrollees with specific serious chronic health conditions. These non-medical benefits, which are not covered under standard Medicare and can help improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.

- Utilities*
- Rent & Mortgage Assistance*
- Home & Bathroom Safety Items*
- Pest Control Retail Items*
- Indoor Air Quality Items*
- Household Cleaning Supplies*
- Personal Care Items*
- Pet Care Items (not including veterinary or grooming)*

What is the SSBCI allowance?
Allowance amounts may vary by plan. Members may review their plan documents for allowance details. The allowance is distributed monthly and will roll over to the following month and expire at the end of the plan year. SSBCI eligibility opens the ability to use the allowance on the additional benefits and services.
Eligibility
You must meet specific eligibility including:
- A documented diagnosis of a serious and complex health condition that significantly impacts health or functioning.
- High risk for hospitalization or other adverse health outcomes.
- Require intensive care coordination.
Important information about your SSBCI benefits:
- 2026 SSBCI benefits effective 1/1/2026 may be accessed within 7-10 business days from the date you are determined eligible
- All applicable eligibility requirements must be met before the benefit is provided
